I am
a qualified teacher though not teaching at the moment. I have just finished writing a book
of my family history including Grandfather's First World War Memories.
In my spare time I over the past few years, I have been researching our Family History. This is a time consuming occupation and can be fascinating, finding out what our ancestors did for a living and where they came from. I started with memories from older family members and have worked backwards from there. I always welcome extra comments and help from anyone who can fill in gaps or provide further information about any branch of the family. If you follow the links you will find pages showing ancestor charts for both my family and Mervyn's. Look at these links:- Dove, Hodgetts, Iles and Wilson. The charts simply show surnames, dates and the places the family was to be found at that time. Finding more background to a family puts meat on the bones, providing clues as to what life was really like for people in days gone by.
In any other spare time I have I enjoy reading many different types of books. I still manage my other hobby of photography too. I sing with a ladies choir called Cantata who sing mostly 3 part arrangements of all sorts of music, a lot of which is music from the shows, though I particualarly like Rutter too! We have been on tour to Belgium and Holland, including singing at the Menin Gate. I still play the flute, though it doesn't get much airing these days and I have lessons on the alto saxophone too.
I am Group Scout Leader at the 3rd Dunstable Group and occasionally help Mervyn at Cub camps and activities where he needs a female leader.
